Bright and fluorescent colors found a place in fashion back in the 80’s. It was everywhere, actually. Those seasoned enough to have watched MTV back when it was true music television and only aired music videos will remember their favorite musicians and bands wearing these bold outfits with vivid colors and patterns on them. Even MTV’s animations were filled with neon hues.
Fashion put these neon colors on clothes, accessories, and shoes. It was everywhere. You can’t turn on a true pop culture 80’s movie or show without seeing a neon bodysuit, headband, leggings, or even leg warmers.
Bright colors are happy, don’t you agree? Fashion makes us happy. So it’s only fitting that at the beginning of 2019 we needed to wear sunglasses when we watched the runways, because the colors we saw were so bright.

Neon is back. Again. Because we saw it throughout the 90’s, and even some of the early 2000’s. Though this year it is only forecasted to be seen in full force through the 2019 summer, so if you aren’t on board it isn’t too late!
Fashion’s color pallets change hue based on seasons, but fashion is cyclical so you might want to hold onto those bright accessories and clothes. Who knows what next year will bring!
How Neon Is Being Styled
From the birth of neon in fashion, it has been seen on things like clothing items, accessories, makeup, and shoes. So I wanted to go a little bit into that because it’s not uncommon to find bright colors on any of these items presently.

On the runway this past spring fluorescent green and neon pink were seen more than the other colors, but don’t be scared to fall in love with the electric blues, dynamic oranges and yellows, shocking reds, or exhilarating purples and fuschias.
In addition to the vibrant colors, I’ve been seeing a lot of fun patterns too. Stripes, polka dots, even animal prints in neon! There is so much room to play with these.
Neon dresses, rompers, and jumpsuits are an easy way to wear neon colors because you won’t need to worry about matching and pairing other colors with them. Neons almost always go with another, though, if you’re brave enough.
In the event you’re not wanting an entire suit but just a piece, it is always safe to go with a neutral black or white with them. For example, a lime green blazer can easily be worn with a white shirt and denim or even black bottoms.
A lot of athletic clothing is offered in vibrant neon hues. So much that Adidas even put out neon striped sneakers. Imagine a neon pink racerback tank with black shorts and neon striped shoes. I actually have neon leggings which double as fashion fun and functional because cars can see me when I’m jogging on the streets!
Oh, don’t forget a neon bathing suit as your main beach and pool wear this summer.

Accessories are super easy ways to sneak neon into your look. Love a bright yellow leather handbag? How about those exciting electric blue pumps? You don’t have to go crazy with the rest of your outfit. Just that little accent is enough!
Headbands, bandanas, scarves, scunccis, leg warmers, fanny packs, and backpacks are all examples of other ways you could add that neon charm into your look.
If you aren’t one for bright colored clothes, that is okay. The neon trend is even applicable if your fingernails and toenails are painted a neon color! Yep! It’s that easy. I for one, really love bright vibrant colors on my toes especially during the summer.
Also, another alternative to wearing neon clothing or accessories is makeup. I’ve been seeing a lot of neon eyeshadows and lipsticks. This is a bolder move than just bright colored nails because your face is what everyone looks at. I love the idea of neon eyeshadow for nights out dancing! The electric colors will match your energy!

Celebrities In Neon
It helps that a lot of major designers are producing neon clothing, shoes, and bags so there are plenty of celebs out there walking around in neon.
Other big name brands too, from neon adidas sneakers to fuschia M.A.C. lipsticks. It’s everywhere!
One of my favorite families to watch for fashion is the Kardashain and Jenner fam. Kylie often shows off her tie-dye neon nails on her instagram and snapchat feeds and Kendall has been seen out wearing neon clothes. One of my favorites looks she’s done is black vinyl pants and a neon green top.
Blake Lively has been spotted wearing an all neon green pant suit with a neon green top tucked in. She even wore neon green earrings, with fuschia colored lips and matching fuschia rhinestone shoes. It couldn’t have gotten any brighter!
Jenny From the Block (AKA J-Lo) Jennifer Lopez has been seen in an all neon orange outfit: orange bandage dress, an orange trench coat, orange aviator sunglasses, orange heels, and a white handbag. She’s always fabulous looking!
So. Now that we’ve dove into the 2019 Neon Trend return, what do you think? The 80’s had it right all along, didn’t it? I mean, who wouldn’t want to wear fun bright and eccentric colors.
Truly, with all of the item options that come in neon and the ways that they can be worn, there is no reason to not participate in the trend this year- especially when we have the celebs to show us how it’s done!
Dress happy ladies.
